Where Can I Serve?

Asbury United Methodist Church offers its members a variety of ways to serve God in the way of ministry.

Prayer Ministry

Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. Asbury United Methodist Church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Each Sunday, during the morning service, a team of volunteers is praying for the ministry of the Word. Throughout the week, volunteers of our Prayer Ministry, which is led by First Lady, Mrs. Ann Blackwell, pray for the pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs. Each Wednesday evening, the church comes together for a special time of prayer and Bible study.

Music & Praise

God-honoring worship is something we strive for.  Many church members get involved in our Choir and Praise ministry.  Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of Asbury UMC, using their talents and gifts to glorify God.

Ushers

The usher team at Absury UMC fills an important role.  They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free and remain in order.  The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men, women and children whose ministry is integral to church life.

Communications

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of Asbury UMC.  In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. We are working to have our sermons uploaded to our website in audio and video format.  Click Here for More.

Children’s Church

In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, Asbury UMC holds a children’s church service in conjunction with the main service. This special time gives kids, ages 3-12, more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons.

Dubois Garvey Foundation Summer Camp

Each summer, Asbury United Methodist Church hosts the Dubois Garvey  Foundation Summer Camp. The five week-long event involves games, a lot of preaching, great food, good worship, and the intentional influence of camp counselors. Our camp is operated through the power of youth leadership, with young adults (ages 16-20) serving as camp counselors and younger teens serving as Counselors in Training. The camp counselors are selected, screened, and trained for this important summer camp ministry.
